Some Thoughts about Predicting the Future, Its Ease and Difficulty

Abstract

When we talk about the future, we automatically associate it with the phrase “to predict”. The thought of predicting the future is titillating: it would be fascinating to know what the following years will bring (or at least to find out the lottery numbers for next week). From the perspective of organizations, it would be nice to find out what people’s preferences related to different products and services will be the following year, in a few years or during the following five years. Investors would be over the moon if they found out the stock market prices for the following month in advance.
