Abstract

Many individuals who spend countless hours in a game environment choose to do so because they get to become who they would like to be, rather than being stuck in an identity that was not of their own (conscious) making. It is all about constructing a life. The difference is that within the confines of a game, we are able to start with a fresh slate and choose from a set of characteristics, abilities, and skills that are subsequently refined through game play. In the real world, however, we are rarely free to choose as nature and nurture work within the level of the subconscious to place invisible limitations on what we can and cannot become.
