Abstract

I am writing this chapter from the eyes of a psychologist, not in a clinical sense, but in the sense of somebody who is constantly trying to understand what shapes human behavior and what impresses people’s minds when they make a judgment and decide to act, or not to act, upon a decision. I was 21 years old when I joined the United Nations (UN), and little did I know that it would open up the doors of the world for me. Over the years, I have held a variety of positions, performing work ranging from administrative tasks to director of human resources in large international organizations. I also write from the perspective of a woman from El Salvador who has witnessed poverty and years of a war. This motivated my desire to understand people and their environment and ultimately led me to study psychology specializing in organizational change.
