Abstract

So far, we have taken a journey that has allowed us to map out and explore one of the most important of current leadership problems: the postponement and avoidance of decisions, otherwise known as procrastination. This type of indecisive behaviour is the result both of factors specific to the individual leader and of factors inherent in the leadership situation. Scientific psychological research has shown that human behaviour is determined by the interaction between individual characteristics and the circumstances to which those characteristics are subjected.122 The nature of the interaction determines the nature of the behaviour. This same reasoning can be used to explain why leaders so often procrastinate.
