Abstract

In much writing on management non-Western management styles and business practices may be dismissed with the discourse of ‘traditionalism’ or ‘underdevelopment’ or stigmatized as inconsistent with the requirements of business efficiency, as if that same ‘efficiency’ was pre-ordained outside of culture as a self-evident scientific truth. Said (1978) of course criticized as stereotypical many Western appropriations of Arab, Middle Eastern and Muslim cultures and Progler develops this theme by arguing that
