Abstract

What is it that hinders women in achieving career success? We asked the women in our survey to identify up to three things that they felt had hindered them. As illustrated by the above quote it appears that women continue to be their own worst enemies. The most commonly mentioned topics tended to focus on women’s own self doubts and limiting beliefs (see the figure that follows). External areas and contributors were mentioned but with far less frequency than women’s own personal frailties and commitment to their family responsibilities. So, while many barriers were identified, these were often cited as being choices that had to be made by the woman herself and therefore were career limiting for a while
