Abstract

Vietnam is overwhelmingly rural. Rural Vietnam is not only the home of most of the Vietnamese people, it also provides employment for most of the members of the labour force, contributes a large proportion of the nation’s net output and accounts for much of the foreign exchange earned by the country. Some of the basic facts about the rural economy are summarized in Tables 5.1 and 5.2.
