Determinants of FDI: Survey Findings

Abstract

This chapter has two main parts. First I provide an overview of the industries covered in order to place the ensuing discussion in context, followed by a presentation and discussion of the findings of the survey. The major economic factors which have determined formalFDI inflows into China between 1979 and 1996 and into Poland between 1989 and 1996 are analysed, with particular attention given to the effects of the host country’s business and investment environments as important factors influencing foreign firms’ investment decisions. In the finalsection a comparison between the two countries is made.
