What is Important in Personnel Development?

Abstract

The evaluation interview is an instrument of the personnel development by which managers as well as their employees get the opportunity — apart from the usual day-to-day business — to analyse the conditions of their working environment and to agree on necessary changes and improvements. This should not only influence the culture of conversation in a positive way, but also raise the job satisfaction and provide a good relationship between the superior and his employees. Especially in China, where hidden problems often arise caused by intercultural differences between western managers and their local Chinese employees, performance appraisal interviews can be a valuable instrument for clarifying misunderstandings, becoming aware of problems, special interests and potentials of your subordinates and motivating Chinese employees (see also chapter 4.2).
