Abstract

The complex explanations of theft and loss are many and are often not well-understood. Loss problems have always been a function of demand, supply and the “plumbing that connects the two”. Insatiable demand for basic and luxury items from commercial buyers and illicit supply chains are fed by vulnerable licit supply chains and stores. However, a formalized approach to crime control and asset protection is possible, and a growing body of well-founded research and theories supports this possibility.
