Abstract

In a global and decentralised economy in which production, distribution and sale centres are usually separated by thousands of kilometres, transport (both of raw materials to factories, and from factories to distribution centres and then points of sale) has become a determining factor in the competitiveness of products and enterprises. Transport services are now one of the cornerstones if not the most important service provided by 3PL providers, such that experts in this area are of the opinion that logistics cannot be understood if the role of transport is not considered first. Therefore, in response to market demands, 3PL providers have entered the market to provide a global, door-to-door or multimodal transport service that competes with the traditional carriers, which only offer fragmented transport service.
