International Differences in Poverty Levels

Abstract

Relative international poverty is the extent of difference in the levels of living of various countries and is proposed to be measured in terms of a broad index of purchasing power of people. Such an index is derived by a Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) estimate of GNP per capita, which is worked out by the United Nations for inter-country comparisons.
