America Sneezes and the World Catches a Cold

Abstract

One of the most far-reaching effects of globalization has been in the increasingly interdependency of national economies. These links are not new, but are much more extensive today. For instance, it has long been said in Canada that when America sneezes, Canada catches a cold. Separated by the longest undefended border in the world, and with 90% of the Canadian labor force residing within 100 miles of the border, it is not surprising that the economies of Canada and the United States are intertwined, and form the world’s largest bilateral trading partners.
