Abstract

If economic transition is a bumpy ride, reform is a tightrope walk. China’s pre-eminent challenge of sustaining economic progress impinges on its ability to expedite the implementation of reform initiatives. Undoubtedly, this task entails a rather tricky balancing act because it involves retaining the main elements of socialism on the one hand and inducting the principles of the market economy on the other.
