Abstract

We live and work in a multicultural world, one in which we are called upon to work together. Assertiveness and the development of assertive relationships in organizations is a way of our working together in which values of openness, honesty, trust, and respect are lived through how we communicate with and do business with each other. Our willingness to work with our differences, to acknowledge rather than deny them, to challenge and support each other, to understand our differences as well as to find our similarities, is the way forward for organizational and business success. Only when we feel valued for who we are and know how to value ourselves can we truly value others. We are able to make stronger connections with each other and to build “bigger” relationships that are assertive and inclusive of difference.
