Abstract

In the James Bond film Goldeneye, a familiar scene takes an unfamiliar twist. The villain is preparing to destroy London: ‘What’s the game?,’ asks Bond, assuming that it is the gold in the Bank of England vaults that is at stake. ‘Oh no,’ counters the bad guy, ‘we’re going to take all the information off all the computers across London’: bank account details, share accounts, credit card numbers – it is information, not gold, which he is after. Of course, on this occasion the good guy wins, but it probably won’t be long until someone tries something like this for real.
