Taiwan

Abstract

Taiwan is an island state of about 36 000 km2, located just 150 km away from mainland China. In the past, Chinese dynasties paid little attention to the island, which was home to aborigines called the Gosa tribe. Endemic diseases, such as malaria, were prevalent on the island, and because of strong currents and heavy seas in the Taiwan strait, it was difficult to reach.
