Measuring trust

Abstract

We regularly make decisions about whether we can trust people. We usually do so based on ‘gut reaction’ and previous experience of individuals or evidence of whether they can be trusted. A decision to trust someone can be crucial. Getting it wrong can cost money, as in the case of hiring someone who turns out not to be trustworthy. It can also cause irretrievable damage to relationships with customers and others for whom a trusting association is crucial.
