Abstract

This book is written by a professional for professionals. It encapsulates my experience of working with professional firms for 30 years. I started out in 1974 as a junior professional and learned my trade as a solicitor. Like my peers, I became a more experienced practitioner, developed my technical expertise and client base, and arrived at equity partner with management and business development responsibilities. I juggled family and client commitments. I built a network of contacts and friends. I became more interested in managing my practice than in adjusting commercial leases and decided to switch career tracks. For the past ten years, I have worked as a management consultant to all the professions – law, accountancy, surveying, architects, medicine and engineering in particular. Drawing on this experience and expertise has allowed me to develop a Model for Success for professionals and their organisations.
