Inflation and Growth

Abstract

The various supply and demand factors influencing growth were discussed in previous chapters in real terms. But these factors themselves may be influenced by monetary forces, such as those occurring during inflation. Therefore, in the present chapter, we consider the relationship between inflation and growth. In elementary expositions, inflation and growth are treated as separate phenomena to be explained by different theories. But in fact there are a number of ways in which the two phenomena may be related. Before discussing these interactions, we first consider the statistical evidence of the relationship as it has occurred in practice.
