Abstract

Is there a distinctive Christian approach to economics? Can human behaviour in monetary transactions be consistent with Christian ethics? Is there a conflict between ‘loving your neighbour’ and the maximisation of personal gain in market dealings? Is an economic system involving private ownership and unregulated markets preferable from a Christian perspective to one with social ownership and resource allocation by government? What has Christian teaching to say on the distribution of income and the accumulation of wealth?
