Abstract

This chapter presents findings from research that has explored the competing identities of modern Russian leaders. It aims to identify leaders’ values and beliefs, and deconstruct how these have been shaped by their personal experiences and the wider historical (political, social and cultural) context. The analysis is based on the stories of 26 interviewees – fourteen business leaders, eight social activists and four political leaders – obtained between December 2009 and January 2010.
