Abstract

In this Reno casino, the surveillance system is very rigorous. Big one-way mirrors are part of the décor, more or less hidden cameras are everywhere, and cash registers and receipts are checked. Moreover, the pit bosses and casino hosts walk around to monitor what is going on at the tables and gaming machines. In this setting, a certain professional group, the cocktail waitresses, have been hired to serve free drinks to the customers. They are paid by the casino, but most of their income is from gamblers’ tips (non-gamblers have to go to the bar and buy a drink if they want one).
