Abstract

We have seen how companies have an amazing capacity to destroy the trust that underpinned the early success of many of them. But the moment they start to replace the initiative, goodwill and thoroughness of their employees with processes and tighter controls, they send a clear message of mistrust, and that is how everyone understands it. Yet companies talk about this a lot, just as they like to talk about simplicity. In fact, they distrust it. Organizations — and not just companies — have a tendency to accentuate themes diametrically opposed to their practices. After all, in France political parties split in the name of unity and no one raises an eyebrow.
