Abstract

The number of bilateral and regional free trade agreements (FTAs) involving members of the Asian region is increasing at a very fast pace and now most of these agreements seek the liberalization of trade in services at a faster pace than was foreseen under the WTO’s General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). The commitments anticipated in these agreements are expected to be wider and deeper than the latest offers made under the Doha Round negotiations.
