Abstract

The discourse of business and human rights is almost absent in Africa while that of corporate social responsibility (CSR) is still largely undocumented, though practised by a few businesses in most of sub Saharan Africa. South Africa may be an exception in relation to the latter. This is perhaps explained by the fact that CSR initiatives are largely seen as an undertaking solely driven by business as and when it chooses to rather than as a framework through which business organizes and takes responsibility for its negative impact on society.
