Summary and Conclusion (of Sorts)

Abstract

All other things being equal, we obviously prefer survival to doom. We achieve survival by avoiding risk. Avoidance, however, can create its own set of challenges (i.e., risk dilemmas), which is why effective precaution requires the preactionary development of risk-free alternatives. To the extent that the bleak choices inherent in risk dilemmas are forced upon us, they negatively impact the possibility of our survival, as individuals, in productive organizations, as a society or even as a wider ecosystem. By pursuing a policy of alternatives assessment, early on in the process of planning for progress, we can avoid risk dilemmas.
