Abstract

As we have seen, the clinically-oriented observers of leadership derailment have used the Personality Disorders as a useful and comprehensive framework to describe failure (Dotlich and Cairo, 2003; Miller, 2008). It seems clear that around five of the disorders are most likely going to “help” a person in the short run to become a leader. These are most likely to be in rank order: psychopathic, narcissistic, paranoid, histrionic and schizotypal personality disorder. However, in certain situations and jobs other types might rise to the top.
