Making Decisions Under Conditions of Risk

Abstract

While the risks of life tend to raise concerns, they are often expressed only vaguely. It would seem that many of us rely on the ability of scientists, regulators, politicians, and business people to understand the nature of these risks, and act in the best interest of all that may be exposed to them. Although our concerns may be serious, many of us feel that those that can really do anything about these risks are able to understand, and hence control them. After all, that’s what a comprehensive plan of risk management at the individual, business or social level is all about, isn’t it?
