Abstract

This chapter was written to assist those who wish to gain a comprehensive understanding of action learning’s origins and evolution. There is much diversity of thought and interpretation about action learning’s major principles and development. With this in mind, we have tried to clarify the chronological and intellectual evolution of action learning as well as how it was, and is, practiced. We have emphasized the life, thinking, and experience of action learning’s principal pioneer, Reg Revans, as he and his work are less well-known today when compared with other approaches to action learning, especially in North America.
