Who Should Read This Book and Why?

Abstract

Up until now most of us have not thought about the energy that we consume. We habitually take the car when necessary, and it tends to be necessary more often than not. We are able to use the amount of electricity that we need, without second thoughts about the environment or about possible supply problems in the future. Recently many of us have become aware of climate change and the role that our patterns of energy consumption play in this development. Some of us, but still a minority, are also starting to wake up to the possible shortage of energy that is looming in the future, due to the peaks in oil, natural gas and coal production. Many people still believe that these developments will pass by, most of us barely noticing them with new fuels and energy-conserving technologies being developed at high speed as the markets signal that demand for them is increasing.
