Abstract

One way of describing theater is to call it a shared experience. A bunch of people go into a theater and settle down to enjoy the show. The story unfolds, they get involved and at some point something happens and they all laugh at the same time. It’s a good feeling. In a tragedy sometimes you hear the muffl ed sobs, too often the muffl ed snores. These shared experiences can be cathartic and crucial for us, whether we get them in the theater or the football ground or the political rally. They are an acknowledgement that we agree, we understand one another – we are among those who think and feel like us. There is an element of this sort of theater in business meetings.
