Abstract

After completing the research for this book, we decided to synthesize what we had learned about Emotional Intelligence (EI) into an assessment that is straightforward and easy to take. Our objective was to develop a self-assessment instrument that addresses five areas of EI: verbal agility, logic and quantitative skills, visual-spatial ability, self-awareness (intrapersonal skills), and interpersonal skills. A copy of the instrument is included as Appendix 18. We administered this self-assessment to fifty of our surveyed trainers and found a correlation between a high EI and effective training. By “effective,” we are referring to concrete measures such as increased productivity, fewer customer complaints, increased profitability, and less management time required to handle employee issues and problems.
