Abstract

The majority of Northern Arctic regions of our planet are regarded as almost inaccessible from the transportation point of view, but the richest deposits of mineral raw materials — oil, iron ores, coal and non-ferrous metals, are located in the Arctic regions. Of about 250 billion tons of the estimated world deposits of oil 40 billion tons are believed to be located in the Arctic regions. Over twenty oil and gas basins are being explored along the continental shelf of the Arctic seas, and five deposits have been discovered.
