Abstract

The ‘homo sapiens’ of the modern age is forced to travel often and regularly even if his dwelling place remains unchanged. To this end he mostly uses one or more of the various means of transport. Different means of transport offer services of different qualitative characteristics: speed, safety, comfort, etc. As a result of socio-economic development a certain horizontal and vertical division of labour has developed among them. The future development of the modal split is an important task of transport policy. Such development necessitates a certain amount of intervention.
