Abstract

The transformation of the structure of production is at the heart of the economic and social changes that characterise economic development. Not only is there a strong statistical association between the rise of industry and the level of per capita income, but virtually all countries that have achieved high living standards by any measure have also industrialised to a substantial degree.2
