Central Place Theory and Regional Planning: West German Experience

Abstract

This paper formulates the main hypotheses and preliminary findings of a research project which questions the intended use of Central Place Theory as a guideline for regional planning in the Federal Republic of Germany. It concludes that the expected development of all the main determinants of Central Place market hierarchies tend to destroy such a pattern rather than to maintain it.
