Abstract

For everyone to have a decent standard of living, nations need governments that protect life, liberty, and property from foes external and domestic. When governments start to redistribute wealth, though, they kill the incentives needed to induce people to work harder, longer, and smarter, reducing the overall size of the economic pie. By handicapping the most productive people, the large taxes or asset seizures needed to fund UBI ensure poverty, not plenty.
