Abstract

Historical-comparative analysis is used to discuss disability income support system in Australia and the legacy of targeting and classification. The chapter provides a nuanced new historical account to provide insight into the multidimensional history of the capital, power and inequality positioned in the Australian political economy from 1908 to current, contested space of policy. The chapter positions the legacy of targeting against a renewed vision for implementing a basic income and forging a socially just society to redress historical legacies.
