Abstract

The higher education systems in many European countries have been influenced by legislative packages meant to develop universities according to the European Higher Education Area. The structural reform in Romania has begun and generated both positive and negative effects. At present, the modern society in the New Economy recognize as sustainable only performant subjects: organisation, universities, governs. Thus, the role of the entrepreneurship in the university area has increased and brought the higher education institutions closer to the organisations and entrepreneurs. In a global world, individuals become themselves global, and education creates global competences for global labour markets. This paper presents the main features of the university behaviour in order to develop educational strategies for a sustainable and global education. The main objectives of the paper consist of the following: − To analyze how the European Higher Education Area affects the national university systems; example of Romania; − To identify the strengths and weaknesses of the contemporary universities especially from three perspective: – university management; – quality assurance in higher education; – labour market and competences. − To create a model of a New University, global and entrepreneurial. The structure of this paper consists of two approaches of the subject: − National and macroeconomic approach; − Local and microeconomic approach. Therefore, such an analyze is important not only for the institutional level, but for the individual one, too. Entrepreneurial universities must generate global competences for successful managers and individuals both in the professional and personal life.
