Abstract

Este capítulo analiza los pasivos ambientales mineros (PAM) en Chile desde un enfoque social, observa la relación entre minería del pasado y del presente, sistematiza percepciones sociales sobre los PAM y releva iniciativas socioinstitucionales que apuntan hacia la sostenibilidad territorial surgidas desde la población local. El argumento que recorre este capítulo es que la persistencia de los PAM no solo constituye un riesgo permanente para la salud de las poblaciones y los ecosistemas, sino también conlleva un riesgo potencial para el futuro del desarrollo minero que, en la actualidad, se plantea como indispensable para el proceso de transición energética.
