L’économie globale du bois tropical

Abstract

En prenant comme modèle la production et le commerce international des bois tropicaux, cet article analyse la mondialisation. Dans un premier temps les forêts tropicales sont resituées face à l'évolution des activités humaines et des opinions publiques. Contrairement aux idées recues, il est montré que les bois tropicaux sont d'abord consommés dans les pays tropicaux. Cette analyse est nuancée dans le cas particulier des forêts tropicales humides. Les ressorts du commerce et les évolutions de l'économie des bois tropicaux sont étudiés. La nouvelle économie des bois tropicaux est discutée : quand la globalisation se fait par le Sud. Les bois tropicaux représente un remarquable cas de la production flexible en réseau. Enfin, le devenir des bois tropicaux et ses conséquences sont envisagés.
