Abstract

The chapter delves into the transformation of economies, particularly in developing countries, where the service sector’s role in gross domestic product and employment has grown significantly. It discusses how globalization, trade liberalization and technological advancements have influenced this shift. The chapter highlights the importance of services in driving the green transition, focusing on various subsectors of the service industry and their potential to contribute to green value chains. The analysis considers both producer services and services with digital content targeting consumer markets. Overall, the chapter emphasizes the need to balance economic growth and sustainability, particularly in the context of developing countries’ industrial reconfiguration and development.
