Disseminating your research for impact

Abstract

For too long, academic researchers have ‘hid their light under a bushel’, resisting media publicity and keeping a low profile. Today, however, governments and funding organizations expect to see industry, professional, or societal impact from academic research. This requires academic researchers to disseminate their research beyond academic journals and conferences. Today, academic researchers need to give presentations to industry and professional conferences as well as academic conferences, give interviews to the media, post on social media, and publish their research for non-academic audiences in order to have an impact. This often requires research translation to identify how research findings can be applied to benefit individuals, organizations, and society.
