Abstract

This chapter explains how to find your place in the world of academic research by identifying a gap in knowledge that matches your interests and disciplinary focus, as well as identifying the journals in which you should publish and the way you should approach writing about academic research. In addition to offering advice on finding your niche, finding your media, and finding your voice, practical advice is given on fundamental ingredients of academic research success such as time management, which is essential to cope with the competing demands facing academic staff.
