Teaching models and learning outcomes in entrepreneurship education: the role of students’ and enterprising parents’ gender

Abstract

Entrepreneurship Education (EE) programs provide students with the competencies to match the requests of today’s labor market and address societal challenges. There are numerous ways to implement EE, and literature has shown that different teaching models can lead to different outcomes. However, it is important to integrate this perspective with the socio-demographic one, particularly studying how individual characteristics influence the relationship between teaching models and learning outcomes. This research contributes to the literature by investigating how the gender of the student and of self-employed parents (where existing) affect the outcomes of different teaching models in EE. Using a sample of 366 Italian students from 42 different courses in 16 universities that attended EE courses and answered the Italian GUESSS 2018, it is found that the impact of teaching models on learning outcomes marginally depends on students’ gender, but a more significant contribution emerges when jointly considering students’ and self-employed parents’ gender.
