Using history to teach entrepreneurship

Abstract

This chapter describes how to use the history of entrepreneurship to help improve learning outcomes for students and aspiring entrepreneurs. This is enabled because an accessible history of entrepreneurship is now available. Using history offers a potent perspective that teachers can use to both motivate and instruct students and aspirants of all backgrounds towards being more successful, strategic - and more mindful - in delivering innovations, small or large, that change the world. The multi-dimensional nature of historical narratives is particularly potent for creating emotional connections with the diversity of students interested in entrepreneurship. The chapter ends referencing results from Princeton’s History of Entrepreneurship class and where free materials are available to teachers.
