Student Envisioned Entrepreneurial Makeovers: it may SEEM impossible but it is not

Abstract

Young firms face significant challenges in overcoming the “liabilities of newness” as they work to establish themselves and gain legitimacy. Student Envisioned Entrepreneurial Makeovers (SEEM) projects aim to bridge this gap by connecting entrepreneurship students with regional young firms. Over the course of a semester, students provide support through structured, project-based experiences centered on the real-world needs of these businesses. SEEM projects offer benefits for all stakeholders: students gain practical experience and entrepreneurial insights, young firms receive valuable resources and support, and the regional entrepreneurship ecosystem is strengthened. This approach aligns with the need for experiential learning in entrepreneurship education, allowing students to test commercial hypotheses, build social capital, and grow their entrepreneurial self-efficacy. This chapter offers insights into the program’s design, implementation, and impactful outcomes.
