Abstract
In the realm of digital built asset management (DBAM), the challenge goes beyond merely adopting new technologies; it involves aligning with best practices within the rapidly evolving digital landscape. Existing methodologies struggle to keep pace with technological advancements and best practices, creating a gap in leveraging the increasing volume and complexity of data for enhanced operational efficiency. This chapter delves into best practices in DBAM, highlighting benchmarking’s role in ensuring that organizations stay at the forefront of digital evolution. It explores smart building technologies like building information modelling (BIM) and integrated platforms, showcasing their efficacy in improving asset management efficiency and sustainability. Additionally, it discusses the roles of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), building automation systems (BAS), and integrated workplace management systems (IWMS), alongside the potential of digital twin technologies and smart technologies for sustainable practices. Through case studies, the practical application of these technologies is demonstrated. The chapter emphasizes maintaining data integrity and security within smart buildings and the best practices for system interoperability. This research benefits facility managers and IT professionals by providing a roadmap for integrating smart technologies for improved efficiency and sustainability in the built environment.
