Abstract

Executives and the decisions they make during acquisitions are often overlooked or treated in isolation by research. We show that theories studying executives in acquisitions could benefit from integration. When covered, theory applied to research tends to focus just on executives. For example, we identify a lack of more general theories of the firm that are relevant to acquisition decisions and processes. To foster a more comprehensive understanding of how executives drive and lead acquisitions, we outline research opportunities to examine executive behavior in acquisitions. Simply, more research needs to consider the people conceiving and implementing acquisitions. Again, this requires integrating multiple theoretical perspectives.
